FILMMAKING

While the essence of Cinema is a voyage into the imaginary, I fully appreciate the necessity of making valid and accurate business decisions that will allow the voyage to begin. Wisely-made films are successful films.

As cinematic history has proven, the nationality of such films is of secondary importance to the viewing audience: Werner Herzog's Nosferatu, Jean-Pierre Juenet's Amelie, Fernando Meirelles' City Of God, Guillermo del Toro's Pan's Labyrinth, Vittorio De Sica's Bicycle Thieves, Mohammed Khan's Dreams Of Hind And Gamila, Abbas Kiarostami's The Taste of Cherry, Deny Arcand's The Decline Of The American Empire and Martin Scorsese's Hugo, among others.

Official culture encompasses people, traditions, history and visions for the future that are all approved by society. It is the filmmaker's task to navigate and challenge these boundaries with entertaining, thoughtful and sometimes provocative tales.
